Air Conditioning Inspections (ACI) are now mandatory for any building that has air conditioning systems with a total cooling capacity in excess of 12 kilowatts (12kW).
The conventions of assessment have been determined by Part 5 of the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) Regulations 2007. This requires the independent assessment of any building in which more than a total of 12 kilowatts of cooling capacity has been installed. The conventions necessitate a thorough analysis of zones being conditioned by that equipment to determine whether it is able to operate effectively.
Account will be taken of heat produced by activities within the zone, be that from people or processes and the rate at which such energy is lost through the walls, floor, ceiling and windows. Use of other heating or ventilation systems will also be noted, particularly where there are no means of inhibiting simultaneous operation. Further, all of the air conditioning equipment, both inside and outside of the building will be examined to determine whether it is working and maintained correctly, and that its controls enable effective use by occupants.
At the end of the process, we will supply the client with an Air Conditioning Assessment Report, TM44 report outlining our findings along with recommendations for improvement and good practice advice for the use of the equipment. This should be retained for five years from the date of assessment at which point a further assessment will be required.
If you are unsure how to establish whether you have in excess of 12 kW then ring us and we will help you.
